Hotel Focus: 11 Howard, New York

Conveniently located in the heart of the bustling city of Hong Kong, we made One96 our home for a few nights during a recent trip. The boutique hotel’s central location allowed us to enjoy an abundance of culinary delights and shopping, while offering a spacious, well-designed room with modern amenities.

The Hotel

Impressive in stature, the undulating facade resembles the rolling movement of a wave and stands out amongst the other buildings. One96 is an all-suite property, with each of the suites inhabiting a dedicated level of the hotel as well as a private lift lobby. As you enter the building, the beautiful marble and glass-clad entrance instantly conveys the hotel’s contemporary feel. As we arrived in the late-afternoon, the friendly reception staff at check-in offered invaluable advice on where to go for dinner, and arranged our reservation for us. The hotel’s location is ideal, with plenty of nearby cafes for breakfast and lunch. One we particularly enjoyed was NOC Coffee Co on Gough Street. After long days of walking in the heat, we were able to stop in to grab a cold bottle of water on the level 1 lounge before returning to our room, which is a nice touch.

The Suite

On arrival, we were graced with floor-to-ceiling windows that spanned an entire wall of the suite, offering stunning views of the Hong Kong skyline and the glistening Victoria Harbour beyond. Our spacious suite at One96 felt more like an apartment than a traditional hotel room, divided into a few different zones. The generous living and dining area includes a comfortable sofa and dining table that directly face the large windows, providing a great spot for a morning coffee. Separated by a bookshelf, a secluded bedroom includes a marble ensuite with a generous selection of Malin + Goetz skincare products that kept us feeling clean and refreshed. Off the living area, a tidy kitchenette stocks all the essentials including cutlery, a coffee machine and refrigerator. The light, neutral colours of the furniture and decor continue the laid-back, luxurious style of the hotel and made us feel at home. Handy electric shutters allowed us to control the amount of sunlight entering the room in the mornings. As well as that, a complimentary smartphone was available to use during our stay – which proved very useful when navigating the city.
